Lori Thompson, DNP, RN, CPNP- PCDoctor of Nursing Practice PortfolioFive Year Plan My journey through the DNP program at Texas Woman’s University has inspired new professional and academic goals. The experience of completing this program has increased my passion for the nursing profession and instilled a desire to take on challenges I had never before considered. The knowledge and skills I have attained in the DNP program have prepared me for the challenges I will face as I advocate for the nursing profession. Outlined are my future academic and professional goals. Year One I plan to submit the findings of my Professional Capstone Project for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. I will present the findings of my Professional Capstone Project as a poster presentation at the Sigma Theta Tau Rising Stars of Scholarship and Research convention. I also plan to summit my findings for a poster presentation at the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) conferences. I plan to submit a case study on Kawasaki disease for publication to the Journal of Pediatric Health Care. I plan to increase my involvement in the local chapter of NAPNAP. Participate in the development of a MS/DNP alumni association. I will continue to increase my clinical knowledge and skill in the care of pediatric patients. Year Two I will continue to be a clinical mentor for the local high school health science program and nursing MS students. I will mentor DNP students as opportunities allow. I plan to become adjunct faculty in a graduate nursing school program. I also plan to pursue a leadership position in the local chapter of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. Year Three I plan to become active in advocating for nurse practitioners on the local and state level. I plan to contact the local representatives in my district regularly to discuss issues favorable to the NP practice in the state of Texas, as well as attend legislative days at the state capital. Year Four Continue to advocate for nurse practitioners in order to increase their autonomy in clinical practice. Submit an article publication in a peer-reviewed journal. Continue to practice in an outpatient pediatric clinic. Year Five Research the requirements to open my own pediatric clinic in an underserved area in rural Texas. Continue to be an advocate for nurse practitioner autonomy in clinical practice. Continue to increase my knowledge and skills related to the care of the pediatric population.
